CGS is the leading geological research institution in the Czech Republic. It is a state research institute supervised by the Ministry of Environment.

CGS is the leading geological research institution in the Czech Republic. It is a state research institute supervised by the Ministry of Environment. Its staff counts about 260 people, around 170 of them being university graduates. Since 2003, CGS has been involved in research related to the CO2 capture and geological storage and has become a pioneer of the CCS technology not only in the Czech Republic but also in the whole region of Central and Eastern Europe.Within this work CGS has become strongly involved in the national debates related to greenhouse gas emission cuts and the low-carbon economy.
